DGO8.04 "Critical Incident Response Team"

8.04.01 PURPOSE

The Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) is an extension of the Behavioral Science Unit (BSU). The purpose of CIRT is to ensure adequate BSU response coverage for a variety of incidents. This order establishes policies and procedures for supporting department members who are involved in shootings, collisions, and other critical traumatic events.

DGO8.03 "Crowd Control"

8.03.01 PURPOSE

The purpose of this order is to establish general policies and procedures regarding the Department’s response to public assemblies and specifies acceptable crowd control techniques and levels of force to ensure the protection of the First Amendment rights of the crowd and the safety of the entire community. 

No policy can anticipate every conceivable situation or exceptional circumstance officers may face. In all circumstances, officers are expected to exercise sound judgment and provide safety with respect.

DGO8.02 "Hostage and Barricaded Suspect"

8.02.01 PURPOSE

The purpose of this order is to establish protocols for conducting hostage and barricaded suspect operations, and to establish guidelines for the duties of officers, supervisors and superior officers. The San Francisco Police Department’s highest priority remains safeguarding the life, dignity and liberty of all persons. The Department is committed to accomplishing this mission by using communication and de-escalation principles, whenever feasible, before resorting to force.

DGO8.01 "Major and Critical Incident Evaluation and Notification"

8.01.01 PURPOSE

The San Francisco Police Department (the Department) stands for Safety with Respect for All. We will ensure residents, visitors, and members are safe and feel safe. 

This order defines major and critical incidents and establishes policies and procedures sworn members shall follow in making the appropriate notifications to command personnel. The Department will respond quickly to these safety risks and will do so with the spirit of dignity and in collaboration with the community.

DGO7.04 "Children of Arrested Parents"

I. POLICY

  1. The goal of responding officers and Family and Children’s Services (FCS) workers is to minimize the disruption to the children of an arrested parent by providing the most supportive environment possible after an arrest, minimizing unnecessary trauma to the children of an arrestee, and determining the best alternative care for the children that is safe. The purpose of this policy is to establish the best methods for working with FCS and first responding officers.

DGO7.03 "Information Dissemination Regarding Registered Sex Offenders Megan's Law"

7.03.01 PURPOSE

The San Francisco Police Department stands for Safety with Respect for all. We will ensure residents, visitors, and members are safe and feel safe. Informing and protecting our community, and doing so with dignity and fairness, is paramount in maintaining and building trust as the guardian of Constitutional and human rights.

DGO6.20 "Member-Involved Domestic Violence"

6.20.01 PURPOSE

The purpose of this order is to establish San Francisco Police Department (“Department”) policies and procedures when investigating and responding to domestic violence incidents involving sworn members (“members”). In addition to the policies and procedures outlined in this order, officers (“officer”) who respond to investigate a Member-Involved Domestic Violence (“MIDV”) incident shall adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in Department General Order 6.09 (Domestic Violence) and Department Manual 26 (Domestic Violence Manual).
