24-162 Application for P.O.S.T. Command College Class 76

The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) is now accepting applications for Command College Class 76. This 14-month program is designed to prepare law enforcement leaders for upcoming challenges by focusing on forecasting, innovation, and strategic leadership. The program emphasizes the STEEP model (sociological, technological, economic, environmental, and political) to help leaders proactively identify and address emerging issues. Offered at a master's degree level, the program promotes student-centered learning and encourages participants to take responsibility for their personal success and leadership development.
Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must meet minimum experience requirements at the time the application is submitted.
- Sworn Peace Officers must be eligible for a POST Management Certificate.
- Professional Staff must have completed the POST Management Course, Civilian Management Course, Advanced Civilian Management Course, or an equivalent program as determined by POST.
- Applicants must hold a management position in a POST regular or specialized program agency, with at least two years of leadership experience (comparable to a lieutenant or higher).
- Involvement in community and professional activities is required, along with a college degree or at least 60 college credits.
- A written recommendation from a community leader and a commitment to remain in law enforcement for five years post-completion is required. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory.
Applicants are encouraged to research the Command College program thoroughly, including but not limited to talking to past participants, to understand its rigorous and demanding nature before applying.
Interested members must submit a memorandum of interest through their chain of command to the Deputy Chief of Administration within 21 days of this notice. The memorandum should outline the applicant's interest and qualifications. The Chief of Police will select one member to proceed with the formal application process through POST. Do not apply on the POST website until selected by the department. Once selected, the applicant must complete the POST application before the February 2, 2025 deadline.
