21-071 Auto Burglary Arrest

Officers recover three firearms, burglary tools, several stolen items and believe the suspects are connected to at least ten auto burglaries in San Francisco.

On Sunday March 14, 2021, San Francisco Police officers assigned to the Central Station plainclothes team were conducting an auto burglary abatement operation around Fisherman’s Wharf when, at approximately 12:30 p.m., they were in the area of Northpoint and Taylor Streets and observed a black Volkswagen that was wanted in connection with several auto burglaries. Officers observed two suspects actively breaking into two vehicles on Taylor Street. The suspects then got into the waiting Volkswagen and fled the scene but remained in the area. Officers spotted the Volkswagen on Stockton Street near North Point Street. As the Volkswagen was traveling on Stockton Street officers deployed spike strips in order to disable the vehicle. The driver avoided the spike strips and sped away at a high rate of speed, however the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided into multiple parked vehicles on Stockton Street. The occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene on foot, however responding officers established a perimeter and took all four suspects into custody within five minutes. Officers determined that the suspects broke into seven vehicles in the Fisherman’s Wharf area and at least ten vehicles in San Francisco that day.

Two suspects were identified as 18 year-old Donjuan Watson Jr. and 18 year-old Jalin Washington, both of San Francisco. The other two other suspects were identified as a 16 year-old male from San Francisco and a 16 year-old male from South San Francisco.

Officers responded to the scene of the collision and conducted a search of the Volkswagen. Officers located three firearms, all with extended magazines, several burglary tools, and several items that were reported stolen in multiple incidents including, cash, computers, electronics, cameras, backpacks and luggage.
