SFPD Arrests Hot Prowl Burglary Suspect and Recovers Stolen Vehicle #26-082

On July 3, 2026, San Francisco Police Department officers responded to a residence in the Northern District regarding a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, officers learned that an unknown suspect had burglarized the home overnight while the residents were asleep inside.

During the burglary, the suspect stole several items, including the victim's vehicle, which had been parked inside the home's garage.

The San Francisco Police Department's Real Time Investigation Center (RTIC) received an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) alert indicating the vehicle was traveling through San Francisco. SFPD's Drone as a First Responder (DFR) officers launched a drone to assist with the investigation while plainclothes officers from multiple units coordinated surveillance of the vehicle.

The suspect eventually drove into an alley in the Southern District and exited the vehicle. Plainclothes officers safely took the suspect into custody without incident.

The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Dylan Ward. At the time of his arrest, Ward was wearing clothing that had been stolen during the burglary, and the stolen vehicle still contained property taken from the victim's residence. Officers recovered all stolen property, including the vehicle, and returned it to the rightful owners.

Ward was booked into the San Francisco County Jail on charges including first-degree burglary (PC 459), possession of a stolen vehicle (VC 10851(a)), and possession of stolen property (PC 496(a)).

While an arrest has been made, this remains an open and active investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the San Francisco Police Department at 1-415-575-4444 or Text-A-Tip to TIP411 and begin the message with "SFPD." You may remain anonymous.
