Pursuant to and consistent with Penal Code Section 13519.8, Vehicle Code Section 17004.7, and the guidelines established in POST Regulation 1081(a) (22), the Department will train its officers annually in emergency response and pursuit driving.

To establish policies and procedures for the safer operation of police vehicles in both Code 3 responses and pursuit driving situations; all traffic collisions involving a member operating in a Code 3 manner and all vehicle pursuit reports shall be forwarded to Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC) solely for training purposes.

The supervising sergeant of the pursuit shall continue to perform any of the required investigation( s ), as the situation calls for. An incident report and CHP 187 a form shall be completed for every pursuit.

Reminder:

A copy of the initial report and CHP 187a form SHALL be emailed to EVOC via departmental email ([email protected]) and the Original CHP 187a form SHALL be forwarded to EVOC via interdepartmental mail. The EVOC unit will send copies of all reports to the proper unit at CHP. DO NOT EMAIL, FAX OR SEND THE REPORTS OR CHP 187a FORMS DIRECTLY TO CHP.
