Officer-Involved Shooting in the Tenderloin District 25-138

On November 9, 2025, at approximately 4:27 p.m., San Francisco Police officers were flagged down by a dog bite victim in the area of Market and O’Farrell streets. Officers learned that a large off-leashed dog bit the victim unprovoked and continued showing aggression towards others in the area.

SFPD officers made contact with a male subject and his dog. While officers were attempting to detain the subject and secure the dog, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The large off-leashed dog fled from the area and then returned to the scene and bit one of the responding officers. The officer received medical treatment for his injury and was released at the scene.

Officers on scene rendered aid, and paramedics transported the subject to a local hospital for his non-life-threatening injuries. The initial dog bite victim self-transported himself to a local hospital for his injuries.

Animal Care and Control (ACC) responded to the scene and took custody of the dog.

This incident is being investigated by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office; the San Francisco Police Department Investigative Services Division (ISD); the San Francisco Police Department Internal Affairs Division (IAD); and the Department of Police Accountability (DPA).

All information is preliminary and could be subject to change. This remains an open and active investigation. As part of SFPD’s commitment to transparency and accountability, a town hall meeting regarding this officer-involved shooting will be held within ten days.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the SFPD at 1-415-575-4444 or Text-A-Tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.
