The officer-in-charge shall ensure that the reporting officer or designee, within thirty (30) minutes from the time that the reporting officer arrives on scene, notify the Department Operations Center (DOC) 24 hours a day at (415) 553-1071 of the following types of incidents:

  • All homicides
  • All assaults resulting in serious injury
  • All sexual assaults
  • All robberies
  • All hot prowl burglaries
  • All kidnappings
  • All missing person incidents
  • Burglaries with a loss greater than $50,000
  • All officer involved discharges
  • Officer shot or critically injured on duty
  • Officer arrested on or off duty
  • All lost or stolen firearms and all recovered/stolen firearms
  • All hostage, barricaded suspect or sniper incidents
  • Any terrorist attack or serious threats
  • All arsons
  • Three alarm fires or larger and/or a fire resulting in serious injury or death
  • All bombings, explosions, found explosives or found incendiary devices
  • All officer involved vehicle collisions resulting in damage to a department vehicle
  • Vehicle collisions resulting in serious injury or death
  • Felony hit and run collisions resulting in serious injury or death
  • Accidents: explosions, traffic, construction, involving multiple casualties
  • Any airplane crash
  • A riot, insurrection or potentially violent demonstration
  • A prison break / Escape Prisoners
  • An earthquake or natural calamity involving multiple casualties and/or significant destruction of property
  • Any other incident/event that could be of immediate interest to the public and/or media
  • Any active-duty SFPD officer’s death on or off duty
  • Any of the below “Covered Incidents” listed in the MOU between SFPD and the SF District Attorney’s Office:
    • Officer-Involved Shooting
    • In Custody Death
    • Any use of force resulting in injury that requires admission to the hospital or upon an SFPD supervisory evaluation, that the use of force appears unreasonable and resulted in serious bodily injury.
