The San Francisco Police Department is committed to supporting the personal growth and professional development of its members. To provide an opportunity for members to further their educations, the Department is pleased to highlight the University of Cambridge Applied Criminology & Police Management Degree Program (Police Executive Programme).
This two-year, part-time course is designed for leaders in policing, law enforcement, and associated organizations. It includes mandatory in-residence teaching blocks and focuses on providing practical and research-based insights into criminology and police management. Upon successful completion of the program, members will receive a Master of Studies (MSt) degree from the University of Cambridge.
It is important to note that an undergraduate degree is not required to apply for this program. The University of Cambridge will evaluate a member's professional experience and references when considering an applicant's acceptance.
Program Details (2025-2026):
- Duration: Two years, part-time.
- Residential Teaching Blocks: The program requires attendance at six in-residence sessions held at Cambridge.
Year One (2025)
- Block A: April 7th - 18th
- Block B: July 14th - 25th
- Block C: September 8th - 19th
Year Two (2026):
- Block D: March 31st - April 11th
- Block E: July 7th - 18th
- Block F: September 15th - 26th
Program Costs:
The total cost for the program is £31,000*, charged at £15,500 per year.
*The £31,000 covers the University composition fee (£15,450) and Extra costs of£15,550 which include; mandatory residential teaching blocks and other supplementary costs. Lodging for the in-residence sessions is included in the above costs.

Post-Acceptance Requirements:
Once admitted to the program, members must:
- Submit a memo through their chain of command requesting to be detailed for the listed in-residence sessions.
- Agree to remain with the San Francisco Police Department in a full-time capacity for three years following program completion.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Sworn members of the Department (Q2 applicants must have completed probation).
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid U.S. Passport before the start of Block A.
Note that members who do not possess a four-year (baccalaureate) degree are eligible to apply.
