The San Francisco Police Department is certifying our members in multiple languages. Members who can proficiently speak, read, or write in other language(s) are encouraged to become certified. Upon certification, members can interpret and translate based on their level of proficiency. Upon successful certification members are eligible for bilingual compensation.

Sworn members and non-sworn members who wish to take the examination shall schedule themselves for a bilingual exam: redacted

The deadline to select a date and time is Thursday, August 10th.

Members will be notified of the examination details via email. Members may conduct the testing on duty with prior approval of their platoon commander and/or supervisor. Although members are encouraged to certify in multiple languages, they will only be compensated for the first language they are certified in. DHR will be certifying the five core languages, Spanish, Tagalog, Chinese, Vietnamese and Russian.

Questions and inquiries should be directed to the Language Access Liaison via email at: redacted
