SFPD Arrests Suspect who Stole French Bulldog “Hank” 25-154(a)

On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at approximately 11:44 p.m., SFPD officers responded to the 400 block of Castro Street regarding a theft of a dog. Officers arrived on scene and met with the victim, who stated that an unknown male had picked up his dog named “Hank” off the sidewalk and fled the scene.

Hank is a 4-year-old French Bulldog, tan in color, valued at over $950. A picture of Hank accompanies this news release. Anyone who locates the dog is asked to call 911, provide the location, and give a description of anyone with the dog.

The SFPD Burglary Unit is leading the investigation. Through the course of the investigation, the suspect was identified as a 44-year-old male, Dante Shaw of Oakland, California. The lead investigator developed probable cause to obtain a search warrant for Shaw’s vehicle.

On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, SFPD officers located Shaw in his vehicle at San Carlos Ave. and High St., where he was detained. Officers and the investigator served the search warrant on the vehicle, which resulted in the seizure of evidence related to the theft. The investigator developed probable cause to arrest Shaw for the theft. Officers transported Shaw to the San Francisco County Jail, where he was booked for the felony charge of grand theft (487 PC).
