This Department Notice addresses recent concerns arising from ZSFGH staff requesting members to take discharged custodies to secondary locations on hospital grounds.

To ensure the secure transfer of custodies, members are directed not to transport a custody to any secondary location on ZSFGH grounds after medical discharge and prior to delivery at en. If an assessment is required, the licensed provider or clinician must conduct it in the custody's current location, either in the hospital room or ER. Once a custody is discharged from ZSFGH, members must transport the custody directly to en without any detours or additional stops.

Documentation and Clearance Confirmation:

Clearance paperwork is now sent directly from ZSFGH to en. If medical staff request a secondary location visit after discharge:

  • Inform them that Department policy prohibits further transport after discharge.
  • Before transporting the custody to en, confirm with en staff that the clearance paperwork has been received and is accessible to en nurses.
  • Notify your supervisor of any delays or unusual requests from hospital staff, or if there are any additional concerns or questions.
