San Francisco Police Seek Public’s Help to Solve 2010 Cold Case Homicide #26-093
San Francisco Police Homicide Inspectors are seeking assistance in solving the 2010 murder of Philip DiMartino.
On August 2nd, 2010, Northern Station officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Herman Street to check on the well-being of 36-year-old male Philip DiMartino, who had failed to show up to work as scheduled. Upon the officer’s arrival, they discovered that DiMartino had been brutally stabbed to death. DiMartino was last seen alive on the evening of Friday, July 30th, 2010, at the Badlands bar where he was a regular patron. DiMartino was also known to frequent other bars in the Castro, including Toad Hall Bar, The Café, and Trigger. DiMartino was also known to utilize dating applications to meet individuals.
It has been sixteen years since Philip was taken from his family and friends, and he is deeply missed. The DiMartino family has chosen to share the following statement about Philip and the impact his loss has had on their lives.
"Philip was deeply loved and respected by his family, friends, and colleagues. He grew up in Chicago and attended the University of Virginia before later making his home in San Francisco. Phil was exceptionally intelligent, independent, witty, adventurous, and caring. He had strong convictions and a remarkable ability to spark thoughtful, engaging conversations — yet he was always fun to be around and had a wonderful way of making people laugh.
He loved animals (including his dog Zoe, whom he adopted in college), travel, cooking — he was even planning to start a vlog — and the holidays, especially Halloween and his birthday. These interests brought him joy and often brought people together. Phil lived life to the fullest and encouraged others to do the same.
Philip was only 36, with so much more life ahead of him, when he was taken from us. We are asking for the public’s help in honoring him by providing any information that may help us understand what happened. If you saw or know anything, no matter how small it may seem, please share it with the authorities. Your information could make a meaningful difference."
The San Francisco Police Department Cold Case Unit is seeking information that would assist in the identification of the suspect or suspects who are responsible for the vicious killing of Philip DiMartino.
