24-065 Restructure of Investigations Bureau and Notification Protocol
Department Notice
The purpose of this notice is to inform Members that the Night Investigations Unit (NIU) is part of the restructuring within the Investigations Bureau.
NIU's duties and responsibilities will be assumed by the newly created Strategic Investigations Unit (SIU). The restructuring will also include additional responsibilities and notifications to SIU. SIU will be staffed with on duty personnel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Effective March 2, 2024, the NIU transitioned into the SIU. Existing notification criteria for NIU shall apply to the SIU. An emphasis shall be placed on when an immediate response by SIU would increase the likelihood of the suspect(s) apprehension.
The current criteria outlying notification protocol for Robbery, Burglary and Night Investigations (now SIU) are kept in the Share Point application and available to all members to make proper notifications of incidents.
Burglary and Robbery notifications during normal business hours (0900-1700 hrs., Monday through Friday) will remain unchanged and will go directly to the respective units.
Effective March 2, 2024, the Burglary and Robbery Units no longer staff after hours on-call.
Effective March 2, 2024, all after hours notifications (1700- 0900 hrs. Monday through Friday and Weekends) for Robbery and Burglary Units are made to on-duty or on call SIU personnel. DOC will provide contact information.
