UPDATE: Wreckage of Volare Located #26-086(c)

The San Francisco Police Department’s Marine Unit on Friday located the submerged wreckage of the 49-foot cabin cruiser Volare in the vicinity of where it sank earlier this week in San Francisco Bay.
SFPD’s Marine Unit has been using boat-mounted sonar to locate the vessel since it sank on Tuesday. The Marine Unit is now using a remotely operated vehicle to assess the wreckage.
The SFPD is working diligently with partner agencies and evaluating recovery options to determine whether it is safe and feasible to recover the wreckage of the Volare.
On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., SFPD responded to a call of a vessel in distress with multiple individuals aboard about 600 feet west of Alcatraz.
The SFPD’s Marine Unit, along with the SF Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard and local mariners, assisted in rescuing 16 individuals from the water. Unfortunately, one victim was pronounced deceased. A deceased dog was also recovered.
On Wednesday, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Coast Guard suspended its search for the missing individuals.
On Thursday, the San Francisco Marine Unit 3 recovered the body of one of the three people who went missing after the Volare vessel sank on July 14, 2026.
SFPD will continue its investigation into the cause of the sinking vessel while continuing the recovery efforts for the remaining missing individuals.
Our hearts go out to all the individuals involved in this tragic incident. The SFPD would like to thank all our partner agencies and members of the public for their quick actions during the rescue and for their tireless work on the response and search for the missing individuals.
