23-197 Pursuit Driving Policy Attestation: Vehicle Code Section 17004.7(b)(l) CVC

California Vehicle Code 17004. 7(b)(1) CVC mandates that peace officers receive annual training on pursuit driving and pursuit policy. Members will be assigned the Pursuit Policy Test 2023 in PowerDMS. This training shall be completed by Sunday, December 31, 2023.
Effective 0001 hours on Monday, January 1, 2024, all sworn members who have not completed the pursuit training 17004. 7 CVC, SHALL NOT operate a department vehicle until this mandatory training is completed (a department vehicle is any vehicle that is owned and operated by the SFPD, marked or unmarked). This annual attestation of understanding is deemed completed when the test is completed in PowerDMS.
The pursuit training and attestation shall be completed by all sworn members, including those who do not operate or routinely operate any department vehicle in the course of their duties.
Each Commanding Officer and Officer in Charge shall take all steps necessary to ensure that mandated training is presented to and completed by all sworn members in their respective commands prior to January 1, 2024. Members returning from approved leaves after December 31, 2023, must be given training immediately upon their return. Training Coordinators have the responsibility of updating the non-compliance report as returning members are trained.
Additionally, Commanding Officers and Officers in Charge shall ensure that no sworn members operate a department vehicle after Sunday, December 31, 2023, unless they were properly trained.
