San Francisco Police Investigating Hyde St. Burglary and Death Report 21-058

On Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at approximately 11:12 PM San Francisco Police officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress in a residential building located on the 2600 block of Hyde Street.

Officers arrived on scene and established a perimeter to search for a suspect. Officers on the perimeter spotted a possible suspect moving on the rooftops of the surrounding three-story residential buildings on Hyde Street and the 800 block of Bay Street, but then lost sight of him.

During a search, officers discovered evidence of forced entry into a residential building. Officers eventually found the suspect trapped in a narrow space in between two buildings. Officers requested assistance from the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) to extricate the suspect. Firefighters performed a “confined space rescue” and removed the adult male suspect. They determined that he needed immediate medical attention. SFFD medics were on scene and began life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, the suspect was declared deceased at the scene.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) arrived on scene and is conducting a death investigation. The SFPD Burglary Detail is investigating the burglary.

Anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD.
