San Francisco Police Department Quarterly Update on Officer Involved Shooting Investigations | 4th Quarter 2020 | 21-006
As part of our commitment towards accountability and transparency with our community, the San Francisco Police Department is providing an update on officer-involved shooting (OIS) investigations.
Prior to May 4, 2019, officer-involved shootings involving San Francisco Police officers were investigated by the SFPD Homicide Detail, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office - Independent Investigations Bureau, the SFPD Internal Affairs Division, and the San Francisco Department of Police Accountability.
On May 4, 2019, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office - Independent Investigations Bureau replaced the SFPD Homicide Detail as the lead in OIS investigations. The SFPD Investigative Services Detail (ISD) will examine the ancillary crime and assist IIB in OIS investigations. The SFPD Internal Affairs Division and the San Francisco Department of Police Accountability also continue to conduct their independent investigations.
