SFPD Makes Arrest in Hot Prowl Burglary, Indecent Exposure, and Battery with Intent to Sexually Assault a Juvenile 20-091

On Thursday, August 27, 2020, at approximately 8:27 AM, San Francisco Police officers from Bayview Station responded to San Bruno Ave. and Silver Ave. for a report of a hot prowl burglary. Officers met with a female juvenile victim, who stated she was home and discovered an unknown adult male suspect in the living room exposing himself and engaging in sexual gratification. The suspect approached the victim in her bedroom, attempted to physically control her and block her escape. The victim forced her way past the suspect and escaped the room. The victim contacted her father and the police, while the suspect remained in the house. The father returned home, confronted the suspect, and controlled him until officers arrived.

Officers took the suspect into custody without incident. The suspect was identified as 33- year-old Leyacitonu Masaniai, of San Francisco. Masaniai was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Masaniai was later booked at San Francisco County Jail. SFPD Special Victims Unit presented the case to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, who rebooked the case charging five felony counts: two counts of first-degree burglary (459 PC 1st), false imprisonment (236 PC), indecent exposure (314(1) PC), and battery with intent to commit sexual assault (220(b) PC). An enhancement for committing a felony while on bail/release (12022.1 PC) was added to all felony counts.

While an arrest has been made, this remains an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD 24 Hour Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD.
