Suspect in Fatal Traffic Collision Arrested 19-090

On Thursday, June 27th, 2019 at approximately 1:53AM San Francisco Police officers responded to 1st Street and Howard Street regarding a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 30 year-old male, Oakland resident was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries and later passed away.  The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
 
SFPD’s Southern District Police Station and the SFPD Traffic Collision Investigation Unit (TCIU) conducted an investigation and determined that impairment was not a factor, but did find the driver was at fault. On July 18, 2019 the driver, Kenneth Hansel 50 year old male from Richmond was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The San Francisco Police Department reminds drivers to proactively look for pedestrians and bicyclists in the roadway.
