SFPD Makes Arrest in September 24, 2022 3rd Street Homicide 22-141(a)

On September 24, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., San Francisco Police Officers assigned to Bayview Station responded to the 5000 block of 3rd Street on a report of an aggravated assault.   

Officers arrived on scene and discovered an adult male on the ground suffering from injuries, began rendering aid, and summoned medical attention. Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for life-threatening injuries.   

Despite the lifesaving efforts of hospital staff, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.   

Investigators from the San Francisco Police Homicide Detail took over the investigation.  
Through the course of the investigation, investigators identified the suspect as 26-year-old Lynell Peterson of Sacramento, California. Investigators developed probable cause to obtain a Ramey warrant for Peterson’s arrest.   

On July 26, 2023, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Task Force and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit, an SFPD investigator located Peterson on the 6200 block of Gloria Drive in Sacramento and took him into custody without incident.  

Peterson was transported and booked at Sacramento County Jail for the Ramey warrant for homicide (187(a) PC).
