SFPD Makes Arrest in Cell Phone Robbery Series 20-003

On Wednesday, December 16, 2019, at approximately 11:30 AM, San Francisco Police officers assigned to Northern Station responded to the unit block of Carlton B. Goodlett Place on a report of a robbery that occurred in the area of Polk and Hayes Streets. Officers met with the victim who said that she was walking on Polk Street when she passed five subjects. The victim said a male in the group grabbed her and took her cell phone from her hand. The suspect fled on foot along with the rest of the group.

On Friday, December 20, 2019, at approximately 2:20 PM San Francisco Police officers assigned to Northern Station responded to the area of Hayes and Larkin Streets on a report of a robbery. The victim told officers that she was walking in the area when she was approached from behind by two male suspects. One of the suspects grabbed the victim’s cell phone from her hands and fled on foot.

On Friday, December 20, 2019, at approximately 2:41 PM San Francisco Police officers assigned to Tenderloin Station responded to the area of McAllister and Hyde Streets on a report of a robbery. Officers met with the victim who said that while she was waiting at a bus stop she was approached by two male suspects. One of the suspects grabbed the victim’s phone from her hands. Both suspects fled on foot.

An SFPD motorcycle unit responded to the area and detained two 15-year-old male juvenile suspects. The suspects were cited and transported to the Huckleberry Community Assessment and Resource Center.

The SFPD Robbery Detail conducted an investigation and determined that the two juveniles and two other male juveniles were responsible for all three robberies. On Thursday, January 2, 2020, officers from San Francisco Police Department, Hercules Police Department and Richmond Police Department served search warrants in Hercules and Richmond. Officers located the four juveniles who were taken into custody without incident.

The juveniles were transported to the San Francisco Juvenile Justice Center and booked on charges of robbery and conspiracy.
