SFPD Makes Arrest in Attempted Kidnapping 20-054

On Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at approximately 3:00 PM an attempted kidnapping occurred on the 3800 block of 17th Street. The victims, two adults, and two young children were seated in their parked vehicle. The family was approached by a male suspect who made several remarks, reached into an open window, and attempt to grab both children. The father confronted the suspect who fled the scene without further incident. The family later said that they had seen the suspect on several occasions in the area prior to the incident.

At approximately 5:00 PM the mother of one of the children was walking on the sidewalk on 17th Street when she noticed the suspect behind her. She called the police. Officers arrived and took the suspect into custody without incident. The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Timothy Stewart Jr. of San Francisco. Stewart was booked at San Francisco County Jail on charges of attempted kidnapping (664/207(a)), assault by means likely to cause great bodily injury (245(a)(4) PC), stalking, 646.9(a) PC and possession of drug paraphernalia (11364(a) H&S).

Due to pending identification matters, a booking photo of Stewart is not being released.
