SFPD Make Arrest in Central District Homicide 19-030

On March 20, 2019 at approximately 1:45PM, officers from Central Police Station responded to Jefferson Street at Taylor Street regarding a stabbing.   Dispatchers at the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management (SFDEM) provided responding officers with a suspect description.  Members of the Central Station plainclothes team and Fisherman’s Wharf foot beat detained the suspect at Taylor Street and North Point Street.

Additional officers located the victim, an adult male, on the sidewalk at Jefferson Street and Taylor Street.  The victim was suffering from apparent stab wounds and aid was rendered by arriving San Francisco Fire Department personnel. The victim was transported to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFGH) where he later died.

Through the course of an investigation, the subject detained at Taylor and North Point was identified as the suspect and placed under arrest.  Both the suspect and victim are known to frequent the Fisherman’s Wharf area.  Bruce Edward Penn, 56, of San Francisco was booked on the charges of murder and multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon.  Due to pending identification matters, his booking photo is not being released at this time.
