SFPD Investigates Mission District Homicide and Arrests Suspect 23-088

On Sunday, July 23, 2023, at approximately 3:51 a.m. officers from Mission Station responded to a report of a stabbing in the area of 24th and Mission streets. Officers arrived on scene and located two adult male victims suffering from wounds. Officers rendered aid and summoned medics to the scene who transported the victims to the hospital. One victim suffered life-threatening injuries caused by a possible stab wound and the other victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Despite the lifesaving efforts of emergency responders and medical staff a 42-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased in the hospital.  

Investigators from the San Francisco Police Department Homicide Detail arrived on scene and are leading this investigation. Through the course of the investigation, the investigators identified and located the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Jose Hernandez in Daly City, California. Investigators developed probable cause to arrest Hernandez who was transported to San Francisco County Jail where he was booked for homicide (187(a) PC) and assault and battery (242 PC).
