SFPD Arrests Driver in DUI Injury Crash 25-062
On May 17, 2025, at approximately 1:59 a.m., San Francisco Police officers responded to the area of Sunset Boulevard and Rivera Street regarding a collision involving two occupied vehicles.
Three adults occupied the victim vehicle. Paramedics transported all three victims to a local hospital. One occupant sustained life-threatening injuries, and two other occupants had non-life-threatening injuries.
The two occupants of the second vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
Through the course of the investigation, officers determined that the suspect driver was driving under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest.
Officers identified the suspect driver as 28-year-old Ryan Kwong of San Francisco. Kwong is currently employed as an SFPD officer who recently entered field training.
Kwon was booked into San Francisco County Jail for multiple charges, including driving under the influence causing injuries (23153 (a) CVC).
“This incident was incredibly tragic, and my heart goes out to the injured victims,” said Chief Bill Scott. “We will do everything in our power to ensure justice is served in this case. No one is above the law, and our officers know they are expected to obey the law, as well as our strict code of conduct, even while off duty.”
