San Francisco Police Make Arrest in Post Street Stabbing 21-117
On Wednesday June 16, 2021, at approximately 10:15 a.m., San Francisco Police officers from Central Station responded to the 800 block of Post Street for a report of a stabbing. Officers arrived on scene and located a 94-year-old Asian female victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. Officers rendered medical aid to the victim and summoned medics to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she is expected to survive.
Investigators obtained a photo of the suspect and circulated it to all sworn SFPD members. The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Daniel Cauich. Less than two hours later, at approximately 11:45 a.m., officers located Cauich on the 1300 block of Clay Street and took him into custody without further incident. Officers also located a knife near the crime scene believed to have been used in the commission of the stabbing.
Cauich was booked on the following charges: attempted homicide (664/187 PC), battery with serious injury (243(d) PC), elder abuse (368(b)(1) PC), committing a felony while on bail or OR release (12022.1(a)(1) PC), great bodily injury enhancement (12022.7(a) PC), and probation violation (1203.2(a) PC).
While an arrest has been made, this incident remains active and open investigation. At this time investigators believe the attack was unprovoked and are working to determine if race was a motivating factor in the incident.
