San Francisco Police Make Arrest in Mid-Market Shooting Homicide 21-112

On Thursday, June 10, 2021, at approximately 10:10 a.m., San Francisco Police officers assigned to the Mid-Market Foot Beat (MMFB) were patrolling the area of Market and Jones Streets when they heard several gunshots. The officers responded to the scene and located an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers immediately rendered aid and summoned medics to the scene. Medics arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased. The victim is identified as 43-year-old Howard Dixon of San Francisco.

The SFPD Homicide Detail took over the investigation. A Crime Alert to locate and identify the homicide suspect was disseminated to SFPD officers.

Through the course of the investigation on June 10, 2021, at approximately 11:55 p.m. SFPD officers assigned to the Narcotics Detail made contact with the suspect at 8th and Howard Streets. The suspect, identified as Leonard Lee Colvin, 49, of San Francisco is on active California Department of Corrections (CDC) Parole for voluntary manslaughter (192(a) PC). SFPD Homicide investigators developed probable cause to arrest Colvin. Colvin was later booked at the San Francisco County Jail for murder (187(a) PC).
