San Francisco Police Make Arrest in May, Polk Gulch Homicide 21-106

On May 8, 2021, at approximately 1:40 a.m., San Francisco Police officers from Northern Police Station responded to a reported shooting on the 100 block of Fern Street.  Upon arrival, officers located the victim, 25-year-old San Francisco resident Robert Luis Mena Gallardo on the sidewalk.  Mena Gallardo was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to his upper body. SFPD officers rendered aid until relieved by paramedics from the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) who pronounced him deceased at the scene.

Investigators from the SFPD Homicide Detail began an investigation which led to the identity of the suspect.  On May 18, 2021, at approximately 1:05 p.m., SFPD officers located Ulysses Gutierrez, 25, of San Francisco, near 46th Avenue and Judah Street and took him into custody.  Gutierrez was later booked into the San Francisco County Jail on the charges of murder (187 PC), carrying a loaded firearm in public (25850(a) PC), being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm (29800(a)(1) PC) and a probation violation (1203.2(a) PC).   Gutierrez is on probation (Post Release Community Supervision: PRCS) for a prior conviction of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm (29800(a)(1) PC).  A search warrant was also served at Gutierrez’s residence on the 1300 block of 47th Avenue and resulted in the seizure of evidence.
