San Francisco Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspects 21-010

On Monday January 11, 2021 at approximately 3:30 PM, San Francisco Police officers from Central Station responded to the area of Pier 15 for a report of an armed robbery. Officers located a 29 year-old male victim. The victim was being treated by medics and was later transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Officers met with several witnesses who said they observed a dark-colored sedan stop next to the sidewalk on The Embarcadero. Two male suspects exited the vehicle and approached the victim. Both suspects were armed with handguns with extended magazines. The witnesses said that the suspects threw the victim to the ground and began punching and kicking him. The suspects took the victim’s camera, got into the waiting vehicle being driven by a third suspect, and fled.

Dispatch broadcast the suspect vehicle description over police radio. Officers responding to the area located the vehicle stopped at a stoplight at the intersection of Broadway and The Embarcadero. The officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, however it failed to yield and sped away in an attempt to evade capture. The suspect vehicle collided with a parked pickup truck on The Embarcadero but continued fleeing. The suspects led police in a pursuit that spanned several city blocks. The pursuit ended at the intersection of Pine Street and Petrarch Place when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a building. Two of the suspects attempted to flee on foot, however they were taken into custody by officers.

A records check of the vehicle showed that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Oakley, CA. While on scene officers broadcast a description of the vehicle and the suspects. Officers determined that the suspects were responsible for an armed robbery that occurred earlier in the day. In that incident a 69 year-old female victim said that at approximately 2:50 PM she was walking on the 2200 block of Mason Street when she was approached by an unknown male suspect who pointed a gun at her and demanded her purse. The victim gave the suspect her purse and the suspect got into a waiting vehicle and fled.

The suspects were identified as 18 year-old Zaire Jones of Antioch, 18 year-old Laurice Berrett and 18 year-old Collante Trotter, both of Brentwood. The suspects were transported to San Francisco County Jail where they were booked on charges of robbery (211 PC), conspiracy (182 PC), resisting arrest (148(a)(1) PC), aggravated assault (245(a)(4), receiving stolen property (496(a) PC), elder abuse (368(b)(1) PC), several vehicle code violations and several firearms violations.
