Officer Involved Shooting California St and Battery St

 

 

At 4:55 am there was a carjacking in Richmond California of a female victim. Richmond PD pursued until CHP took over pursuit on US 580 to 101. The pursuit crossed the Golden Gate bridge into the city. SFPD took over pursuit per policy assisted by CHP. Vehicle lost in the area of Bush and Fremont. Calls at 5:55am about rollover accident at California St and Battery St. Per witnesses and the victim, as good samaritans attempted to assist the suspect he began firing at them. One good samaritan was struck in the chest by a fragment. It is a non life threatening injury and he will survive. It appears the suspect was attempting to get out of the stolen vehicle. Officers responded. Officers requested a less lethal. Officers tried to get the suspect to surrender the gun. The suspect turned the weapon on Officers. Several Officers fired. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The only information we have about the suspect at this time is that he is male. More information to come.

 

 

California St from Front to Sansome and battery from Pine to Sacramento is expected to be shut down for the remainder of the morning. MUNI has been rerouted.
