SFPD Swiftly Arrests Shooting Suspect #26-092

Officers' Action Removed Dangerous Individual from Street

On July 23, 2026, San Francisco Police officers responded to the area of Steiner and Bush for a "shots fired" call. Officers were advised by dispatch that the 911 caller stated her car window was just shot out and the suspect vehicle was a yellow vehicle that fled the scene in a reckless manner. SFPD Northern Station patrol officers arrived on scene, located the victim, and broadcast further information regarding the incident. The officers observed the shattered vehicle window and gathered further description of the suspect vehicle with distinct "yellow windows" and a license plate seen in a video taken by the victim. SFPD Drone as First Responder (DFR) responded to the scene to attempt to locate the suspect vehicle.

Officers assigned to the SFPD’s Real Time Investigation Center (RTIC) utilized the city’s network of automatic license plate readers (ALPR) to search for the suspect vehicle. An officer broadcast the license plate of the suspect vehicle seen on a video taken by the victim during the incident. Officers were able to determine the last known direction of travel for the suspect vehicle. A Northern patrol sergeant in the area located the suspect vehicle parked in a parking lot in the vicinity. DFR maintained visual of the parked vehicle while a plan was developed to apprehend the suspect who was potentially armed. A male matching the suspect description of the shooter walked towards the suspect vehicle. Officers quickly moved in and detained the suspect without further incident.

Through the course of the investigation, officers developed probable cause to arrest the suspect. During the arrest, officers located and seized a handgun near the vehicle. Officers developed probable cause to search the suspect vehicle, which revealed unspent firearm ammunition.

The adult male suspect was transported and booked into San Francisco County Jail for several felony offenses including attempted murder (664/187(a) PC), assault with a semiautomatic firearm, 245(b) PC), carrying a concealed firearm (25400(c)(6) PC), willful discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle (246 PC), and carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle (25400(a)(1) PC). Due to the active investigation, we are not releasing the suspect’s identity at this time.

Although an arrest has been made, this remains an open and active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SFPD at 1-415-575-4444 or Text-A-Tip to TIP411, beginning your message with "SFPD". You may remain anonymous.
