The purpose of this directive is to announce the revision of Department General Order 6.20 Member Involved Domestic Violence, adopted by the Police Commission on June 5th, 2024. Members will be held accountable for this policy starting July 19th, 2024.

The updates in this policy include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Written Statements
    1. Officers that took action or participated in the investigation at the scene of a member involved domestic violence incident shall document their observations and actions in writing for inclusion with the initial incident report.
  2. Notifications
    1. DOC Notifications:
      1. Added the Commanding Officer- Risk Management Office to be notified by DOC.
  3. Arrest of Commissioned Officers or Command Staff
    1. Chief of Police will notify the President of the Police Commission.
    2. If the arrested member is the Chief of Police, the Assistant Chief will notify the Mayor's Office.
  4. Chiefs Orders
    1. Listed what may be included in a Chiefs Order
  5. Member Victims of Domestic Violence
    1. Recommendations for assisting member victims of domestic violence and utilizing SVUDV and BSU as resources.

Lieutenants, sergeants, and training coordinators should read, review, and discuss this policy during lineups.

Members are expected to have a working knowledge of all directives applicable to their respective assignment and comply with their provisions, per DGO 3.01, Department Written Directives. Members shall obey all written orders, policies, and procedures of the Department, per DGO 2.01, General Rules of Conduct.
