This notice is to advise members of the new provision regarding the Retention Pay under the POA MOU, which will take effect on July 1, 2026.

Sworn members who possess an intermediate POST certificate or higher and have completed the requisite years of service as a police officer or deputy sheriff shall receive the following retention pay:

Effective July 1, 2026, eligible members shall receive the following retention pay:

Retention pay shall be included for purposes of retirement benefit calculations and contributions as permitted by the Charter. It is the parties' understanding that this benefit is part of the salary attached to all ranks for employees who completed the above defined conditions.

Please note, eligibility for this premium is now inclusive of all sworn police officer or deputy sheriff service, including such service from another law enforcement agency outside of the San Francisco Police Department.

For those members who have sworn police officer or deputy sheriff service from another law enforcement agency, the Declaration of Prior police/Sheriff Service form (attached to this Department Notice) must be filled out and submitted to the Payroll Unit. In addition to this form, the member's POST Profile (accessible by logging in to the POST website at https://post.ca.gov) must also be submitted to the Payroll Unit to verify eligibility.

Additional retention premium percentages for those with prior qualifying sworn law enforcement experience will not be paid without submission of the form and supporting POST Profile documentation.
