SFPD Arrests Taraval District Homicide Suspect #26-056(a)

On May 17, 2026, at approximately 5:21 a.m., San Francisco Police officers responded to the 2500 block of 46th Avenue regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from injuries caused by gunshot wounds and rendered aid. Paramedics arrived on scene and performed life-saving measures. Despite the life-saving efforts by first responders, the victim was declared deceased on scene.

The San Francisco Police Department Homicide Detail responded to the scene to take over the investigation.

Through the course of their investigation, investigators identified the suspect as 68-year-old male Philippe Chagniot of San Francisco and developed probable cause to place him under arrest.

On May 27, 2026, SFPD investigators located Chagniot and placed him under arrest without incident. Members of the SFPD Homicide Detail later executed a search warrant of Chagniot’s residence and seized evidence connected to the incident.

Chagniot was transported to San Francisco County jail and booked for murder (187(a) PC).
