Chief Information Officer Susan Merritt was born in Missouri and grew up in Sacramento, California. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of California at Los Angeles. Merritt began her career in technology at IBM and worked in technology and consulting roles for several companies including Accenture, The Walt Disney Company, MCA Universal, Wells Fargo Bank and Cisco. An interest in law enforcement and in using technology to help people prompted her to join the SFPD in 2010. Merritt is proud of the technology team she has built at the SFPD, with accomplishments including a new state-of-the-art records management and data-storage system, a sophisticated new approach to electronic crime reporting and the implementation of smart phones, body cameras and apps such as e-Stops and e-Citations.
